The New York Jets have come to an agreement on a four-year, $66 million extension with guard Joe Tippmann that will keep him under contract through the 2030 NFL Season. 

This is once again a fantastic move by Jets General Manager Darren Mougey, who has put together quite an offseason for Gang Green. Mougey has made the offensive line a top priority of this team since his arrival in 2025. He drafted right tackle Armand Membou with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, his first selection as a general manager. 

He wanted to pair Armand Membou alongside 2024 first-round pick Olu Fashanu to complete our young offensive line unit. Now, he has decided it was time to extend guard Joe Tippmann to ensure the core would stick together for years to come. 

Joe Tippmann was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the previous regime led by general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh. Throughout his time with the Jets, he has bounced around from center and guard, proving his versatility as a plug-and-play kind of guy. He is able to be moved around the offensive line, which is a crucial benefit considering the amount of injuries that happen throughout a season. 

I think this was the perfect time for a move like this. Continuing to make moves in the offseason and gettinf a top-15 young guard in the NFL locked up long-term was genius. The guard market has continued to get more expensive over the years, and this contract will age like fine wine. 

Darren Mougey has done everything right this offseason, which is truly hard for us suffering Jets fans to comprehend, considering we have not had a competent general manager in years. With the offensive line now solidified, Geno Smith should have a bounce-back year after a rough 2025 season with the Las Vegas Raiders. 

He will now have time to sit back in the pocket and look for Garrett Wilson downfield instead of getting immediately pressured behind a bad Raiders line.
